CCEM Experts, Under the Coordination of the Greek Company PLANET, Provide Support for Jiu Valley, Through an Assignment from EIB
CCEM experts were recently assigned by the Greek company PLANET S.A. to support delivering a pre-feasibility study for three PPVs in the Jiu Valley micro-region: Petroșani, Vulcan, and Petrila, under a contract signed between PLANET S.A. and the European Investment Bank.
The contract between CCEM, Romania and PLANET, Greece was signed at the beginning of 2024 and has an eight-month duration. CCEM will provide:
- Two out of three Key Experts – the Project Manager of the Project Team and the Project Engineer;
- The non-key experts for the Project – the ESG experts and the Project Technical Expert.
The project will contribute to achieving the Green Deal objective regarding the CO2 neutrality of EU until 2050.
The background of this assignment is a joint EC – EIB technical assistance (TA) facility for coal, peat, and oil shale regions, called TARGET, complementary to JTM (Just Transition Mechanism).
Such a TA agreement between the EIB and the Asociația pentru Dezvoltare Teritorială Integrată Valea Jiului (ADTIVJ) was agreed upon and signed by the parties in December 2022, with the topic “Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency”. One of the projects to be supported under this TA agreement was “Photovoltaic power plants (PVP),” aiming to generate electricity by installing photovoltaic power plants and potential battery storage capacities on depleted mines fields – which is the assignment above awarded to PLANET, Greece.
Visits to Jiu Valley and sites, including consultations with the main stakeholders and relevant competent Authorities have already been scheduled throughout the entire project lifetime.
We are glad that the constant commitment of CCEM experts to planning and implementing a just and socially affordable transition from coal in Jiu Valley is now paying off, through implementation of new projects dedicated to revitalizing this beautiful region – the gateway to Retezat National Park, surrounded by Parâng and Retezat Mountains and crossed by the Jiu River.
